Upper Elementary Bible Skipping Stone Workshop & Celebration 2024-2025
Exploring God’s Word
For Grades 3-5
As children transition to becoming independent readers, we fulfill the baptismal promise to “place into their hands the holy scriptures” by gifting them an advanced version of the Bible. During elementary school years, children are captivated by the Bible’s dramatic stories, the life of biblical times, and learning more about Jesus and the message God has for us through the Word.
The Upper Elementary Bible Blessing Skipping Stone involves participating in a workshop and a celebration and blessing of children during worship.
Dates: Workshop Jan. 11 or Jan. 15; Celebrations in worship Feb. 1 or 2
The workshop introduces children and parents to their new Connect Bible, a New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) edition, given as a gift from St. Andrew’s. It's a fun, energetic learning experience led by a Pastor and the Children's Ministry Team. Topics include an overview of what’s in the Bible, how it’s organized, how to look up verses, and how the Bible came to be. Children receive a Bible carrying bag, bookmark, pen, and highlighter – tools to get them started into a life of reading and studying God’s Word. Children attend with at least one parent/guardian or adult partner; the nursery will be available for younger siblings during the Wednesday evening workshop. Children do not have to be members of St. Andrew's.
The Celebration will take place in worship the first weekend in February. During the service families will be invited forward and parents will place this new Bible into their child's hands, and receive a blessing from the pastors and congregation.
