First Communion Workshops are being offered in Spring 2021 for children and families who would like to prepare for a child’s first experience of Holy Communion. It’s one of our six Skipping Stones to celebrate moments in a child’s journey of life and faith!
To maintain a safe atmosphere with a limited number of participants, families can choose to attend ONE of the following workshop options:
Registration will close at Noon on Wednesday to ensure time for preparing materials and for Thursday participants to pick up their bag before the workshop.
- Sunday, March 21, 4-5 p.m. in Great Hall
- Wednesday, March 24, 5-6 p.m. in Great Hall
- Thursday, March 25, 6-7 p.m. online via Zoom
During the workshop, children learn what it means to REMEMBER, RECEIVE, and SHARE in the meal of Holy Communion – exploring what Communion is, what makes it special, how we practice receiving it, and what it means to live out our faith in the world. The interactive workshops are led by Pastor Brian Norsman, Mark Jackson, Erika Hiland, and Laurel Bornholtz. Children receive a handmade ceramic chalice and an engraved skipping stone as a gift from St. Andrew’s.
Children attend the workshop with at least one parent/guardian or partner adult. Pre-registration is required. To maintain a safe environment at in-person workshops, families will sit at tables with only those from their family unit at a distance from others. Guidelines for safe gatherings based on St. Andrew’s current COVID preparedness plan will be emailed prior to the workshop. Families attending the online workshop will be sent a Zoom link and connection instructions.
We are excited to offer First Communion Celebration during our online Maundy Thursday Worship (7 p.m. Thursday, April 1). The whole congregation will be focused on the celebration of communion during that worship service and we want you to be part of it! During the workshop, families will receive the ingredients to make their own communion bread to use for celebrating at home.
If celebrating on Maundy Thursday during online worship doesn’t work for your family, other options would include:
(1) At home during any St. Andrew’s worship service when Holy Communion is celebrated, livestreamed at https://live.saintandrews.org.
(2) In person at St. Andrew’s during any worship service when Holy Communion is celebrated. Details and pre-registration at www.saintandrews.org.
(3) Wait until a future celebration is offered at St. Andrew’s
We look forward to welcoming you into the sacrament of Holy Communion!
